Traveling with Trient: A Reno best kept secret- Homegrown Gastropub

Traveling has always been one of my favorite hobbies, and I’m sure most people feel the same way about their particular passions. A business trip, weekend getaway, or even a quick vacation can be extremely fun and enjoyable if you have the right information to make it happen! We are lucky to live in such an amazing city like Reno with so many great options nearby at all times, but sometimes it can be difficult to find something new when you’ve already tried everything in your area.

Location

Homegrown Gastropub is located in the heart of Midtown Reno, Nevada. Located at 719 S Virginia St, this is a great place for business meetings or fun family nights. It is within walking distance from Nomad Boutique. With a more private room in the back, this is an excellent venue for any event! The restaurant offers delicious vegan options and there are gluten free options as well! With all sorts of specials going on it's easy to come back again and again.

The Atmosphere

Inside, you will find a cozy atmosphere that is perfect for your next business meeting or night out with friends. The bar seats up to a handful guests, and there are also 2 TVs. But if you're looking for a more intimate setting, head back to the private room in the back where tables can accommodate anywhere from 6 - 10 people. If it isn't already apparent, this spot is perfect for just about any occasion! As We at Trient found out on our last Executive Dinner, this is now one of our top locations in Reno for delightful dinners while going over business.

The Menu

Homegrown is a locally owned restaurant which has been in business since 1994. Their menu is filled with pub food that is made from scratch and made fresh daily. It offers many items such as salads, sandwiches, burgers, appetizers, entrees, and more. They also offer a kids menu for those little ones who may not be ready for the big menu yet.

From the Owner's own words

From Spencer Shae :Owner of Home Grown Gastropub

I'm Spencer Shea, owner of Homegrown Gastropub. Here is my story. Early in the 2000s, I dreamed of opening my own organic restaurant. Ten years ago I worked at SUP in the same location and then moved on to school to become a pediatrician. While in school I discovered that I didn't want to practice pharmaceutical medicine and started to believe in natural medicine. In my 2 years working at Shea's Tavern, I booked bands, handled sound, and tended the bar until the wee hours of the morning. After about 2 years of that, I began preparing to open up my own organic restaurant.

With My daughter having an autoimmune disorder we started going to doctor to doctor. It was so sad and there was no answer to my daughter's severe eczema, which made her stay up all night scratching and bleeding. She also suffered from Alopecia and was bald. As a result, I came across this book called GAPS that was based around the GAPS diet. The GAPS diet was written to prove that 90% of our immune system resides in our small intestines. Basically, our small intestine is a battleground between good and bad gut bacteria due to the amount of pesticides, GMOs, antibiotics, hormones, and nitrates in today's diet. You can keep the health of your "enterocytes" by eating probiotic foods. It's called "Leaky Gut Syndrome" if these "enterocytes" are unhealthy, which results in an open flood of undigested proteins, environmental toxins, and everything else. As a result, your body begins to attack itself, causing inflammation and a loss of control over your immune system.

Knowledge of this led me to introduce only organic food, fermented and cultured foods, kefir and bone broth into her diet and both eczema and alopecia are now a thing of the past. I believe it's important to eat only natural food and that's why I started an organic restaurant with produce from the region and community support. I was born in Reno and have no intention of moving to another state.

The People

Renowned for its family friendly atmosphere, this modern pub is a great place to meet up after work or on your lunch break. They offer an extensive menu of craft beers and cocktails, as well as a cozy fireplace if you need some warmth. With a more private room in the back, this is also a great place for business meetings or fun family nights. In the heart of Midtown Reno, Nevada it is within walking distance to Nomad Boutique.

Our Experience

Traveling with four executives plus two minors, it can be challenging to fine the right place to both conduct work still be parents. Luckly, we were able to stumble upon Homegrown Gastropub for a delightful dining experience. With the front space being more for the parties of four or less we were taken to the backroom. A spacious area large enough for just about any event.

Meals range comfort food to parings that delight the senses that normally you wouldn't think of pairing together. Having those picky eaters in the bunch just added a zing to dinner yet they too also found meals that allowed them to clear their plates. Very little if any leftovers here.

We at Trient have already decided to go back for other C-Suite dinners or for the occasional family outing.
