Interview with Mia Jones
Lynn; What difference do you see between a writer and an author?
Mia: I’ve been told that a writer is just someone who writes, but you have to be published to be an author.
Lynn: Have you ever considered writing under a pseudonym, and why or why not?
Mia: I already do. I write under several different ones.
Lynn: How long have you been writing or when did you start?
Mia:I was thirteen when I started and I’m now 55. A long time. lol
While we are on the subject lets find out a little about your writing process.
Lynn: At what time of the day do you do most of your writing?
Mia: Sun up to sun down and beyond. I’ve no set hours.
Lynn: I know some authors who have books and list of names. How do you come up with character names for your stories?
Mia: I have lists of names that I go through to see which one fits my characters.
Lynn: Now I know you have some books out there. How many books have you written and which is your favorite?
Mia: I’ve written over fifty, under different pseudonyms. Mia has twenty-one published with many more to come. I can’t give you a favorite because I put a little of myself in each book.
Lynn: How would you describe your book’s ideal reader?
Mia: Anyone that loves romance with a bit of conflict.
Lynn: How important was professional editing to your book’s development?
Mia: Huge. I learned that the hard way. People don’t want to have a difficult time reading your books because of grammar and content mistakes.
Lynn. What was your hardest scene to write, and why?
Mia: Sex scenes are what I struggle with the most.
Lynn: Now that we understand your books at a glance. Now Let’s get to know you. If you didn’t write for a living, what would you probably do for work?
Mia: Animals. I love them all—animal rescue leagues or shelters.
Lynn: Does anyone in your family read your books?
Mia: Yes, I have sisters, and my mom has read them.
Lynn: In some family writing runs in our blood. Do you have other writers in the family?
Mia: There are no other writers in my family.
Lynn: What is the first book that made you cry?
Mia: Where the Red Fern Grows. I was in my school library. It was very embarrassing. lol
Lynn: What is the most unethical practice in the publishing industry?
Mia: Piracy. It’s happened to me several times.
Lynn: If you could tell your younger writing self anything, what would it be?
Mia: To start publishing my books when I was younger. I still struggle with self-esteem even though I have over five publishers asking me for books. I get so mad when I think of all the books I wrote and then threw them away because I didn’t think anyone would enjoy them.
Lynn: As a writer, what would you choose as your mascot/avatar/spirit animal?
Mia: I have a heavy metal squirrel named Chester. I think of him as my mascot.
Lynn: Will you have a new book coming out soon?
Mia: Yes, the title is Left Behind. It should be out this month. It’s my first historical novel. I’m anxious to get feedback from my readers.
Lynn: And before you go. Let’s have some fun. What do you need in your writing space to help you stay focused?
Mia: Total silence. Unfortunately, I can’t even have music.
Lynn: What is your schedule like when you’re writing a book?
Mia: I am blessed that I don’t have to have a 9-5 job. I can spend 12-15 hours a day writing. Thankfully my husband is very supportive.
Lynn: What risks have you taken with your writing that have paid off?
Mia: Quitting my job and just writing. That was a bit scary, but it paid off.
Lynn: Have pets ever gotten in the way of your writing?
Mia: I have four dogs and two cats, and they are always in the way. I have to lock myself in my office to get any peace, and that’s still iffy. They know how to knock. lol
Lynn: What books do you enjoy reading?
Mia: Romance, romance, and romance. lol
Lynn: What books have you read more than once in your life?
Mia: Julie Garwoods and Joanna Lindsey books. All of them numerous times.
